2) Tattoo “You Make Me Beautiful”

It was Lovato’s very first tattoo and she got it done when she was only 16. This one is ideally places of the singer’s ribs, stating “You Make Me Beautiful”, and these the lyrics to a favorite song of hers. In an interview, she explained her reason for getting tattooed, “I was 16. And I got it in some tattoo artist’s apartment. Like it was so sketch, it was in L.A. But I wanted to get tattooed so bad. 3) 12 Birds Tattoo

Coming to Lovato’s one of the most distinctive tattoos, it is none other than the one going up her forearm. Yes, the one which carries 12 birds and was done by famous tattoo artist Kat Von D. Getting this tattoo was an “impulsive” decision, she said. As she came into contact with the artist through a friend, she explained “I love the freedom that birds represent and I didn’t specifically have a huge reason why I got 12 of them. But one day, one of my friends that I was at Sober Living, I was living in her Sober Living house, and they asked, ‘So why’d you get … How many did you get?’ And I was like, “I don’t know. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, and I was like, ‘Whoa, I didn’t mean to do that.’ But it’s like, it was kind of like a God thing, like I worked the 12 steps, so as I got that while I was in Sober Living, apparently it was really meant to be.”

4) Tattoo Africa

Now for this one you call her a true tattoo lover as she go the outline of the country Africa tattooed after she returned from a mission trip to Kenya for her 21st birthday. While she has got the tattoo on the inside of her right forearm, it can be quite surprising why she chose to get the tattoo of Africa instead of Kenya. To this she answered, “I got Africa tattooed. I went there for my 21st birthday. I went to Kenya and it was just a very, very inspirational journey that I feel like really had a huge impact on my life. And, I would’ve gotten Kenya but then people would have been like, “What’s that?” (Laughs) So Africa’s a little more distinct.”

Next in the list is about the most meaningful one out of all of her tattoos. The singer explained that all her tattoos are partly dedicated to her fans. While she is thankful to all those who supported her, it is equally essential for her to remind herself about staying healthy and strong. Lovato said, “When I got out of rehab that’s the first thing that I did is I went and got tattooed ‘Stay Strong’ because a lot of fans were telling me that and it helped me get through a rough period. So anytime that I would feel triggered to either self-harm or act out in an unhealthy behavior, I could look down at that and stay strong.”

6) Tattoo Roman Numeral Three

If you ever check on the outside of her left wrist, you will spot a tattoo of the number three in Roman numerals. While this one is the smallest and most subtle pieces of ink she got, it is also very personal. The singer’s father passed away in 2013 and this one is a tribute to him. She explained once, “I have the number three in Roman numerals on my wrist and that was a number that was very significant to my birth father because he loved Dale Earnhardt. So when he passed away I got the number three tattooed on me to remind me of him.

Following the lyrics from her song “Warrior”, Lovato got tattooed across her shoulder blade. Being very significant to the singer, this one is a tribute to the album and refers to becoming a stronger person. Her explanation to this was, “I have a song on my album called ‘Warrior’ and it’s a very, very meaningful song to me,” she told Jimmy Fallon. “It’s really heavy, the lyrics, but it’s an inspirational song as well. It’s a negative thing turned positive. I’ve been through a lot and I’m really really honest on this album. And this is a song that was really difficult for me to write, record, and now release. [The tattoo] was kind of like a tribute to releasing the album as well as overcoming some really really difficult things in my life.”

To end the list here, this tattoo was the most painful one. Lovato believes that she has a high tolerance for pain, but she also stated that her finger tattoos was the most painful. “I have finger tattoos. It says ‘Rock and roll’ and ‘Peace,’ and that one hurt.”
